Isle of Man Depression Support Web Series

The Spark

About the Project

'The Spark Documentary', sponsored by the IoM Arts Council, is a mini-series that aims to give hope and help to sufferers of depression and those who support and care for them.

The series features interviews with people from all walks of life in the hope that it encourages everyone to talk about their mental health in an honest and open way. There are discussions with therapists, professionals and fellow sufferers, as well as quotes that you may find helpful or inspiring. The music played within the documentary has been created by local artists, some of whom have struggled with depression themselves. There will also be talks about techniques and things to try at home that may be useful.

We currently have 6 episodes on the topic of talking that can be viewed as of 6th December 2021, however, we would like to create more episodes that will cover other topics including art, music, physical activities, hypnotherapy and much more but we require funding for production costs for this to happen.*

Jenny's hope for the documentary is that it encourages people to discuss their mental health and to shine a light on the help and support available on the Isle of Man.

Where did the name 'The Spark' come from?

Jenny was lucky enough to have a wonderful and supportive GP. After her diagnosis, and when Jenny seemed to be managing her symptoms, her GP said to her "The first time you came in here, I could see a spark in you, and I knew you'd be alright." The name 'The Spark' is a tribute to that doctor as Jenny believes she had a big part to play in saving her life.

*Please note that none of the people interviewed or leading the interviews are being paid. All funding will go to production costs for more episodes of 'The Spark'. If you or your business would like to donate money towards our project, please go to our GoFundMe page.

(We realise that you may feel that your money is better placed with charities that support those with depression and we understand this, however, if you feel that our project is important in that it reaches people in their homes and is available to all, we would appreciate further funding, particularly from businesses. Please contact thesparkiom@hotmail.com for further details.)
